Inspiration

Café Terrace at Night, originally titled Café, le soir, is an oil painting by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh, completed in 1888 in Arles, France. The painting captures a warmly lit outdoor café under a starlit sky, using vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes. It’s one of van Gogh’s most beloved works, evoking a sense of both quiet charm and cosmic wonder.

Homage

Around the cafe (clockwise from left) are Pope Clement VIII, Khair Bey, Jerzy Franciszek Kulczycki, Voltaire, Kaldi the Goat-Herder (with dancing goat), Murad IV, and in the foreground, Johann Sebastian Bach. Our two-episode series on History of Coffee originally premiered in August of 2021. Art by David Hueso.
