Inspiration
Painted in 1930 by American artist Grant Wood, American Gothic portrays a stern-faced farmer and a woman who may be his wife or relative standing before a Gothic-style Carpenter farmhouse, inspired by a real home in Eldon, Iowa. Both a symbol of rural Americana and a subtle social commentary, the painting has become one of the most recognizable works of American art.

Homage
Americana Gothic shows a young Henry Ford posing with his recently completed Quadricycle. Nearby, his wife Clara questions whether it was necessary to smash it out of their garden shed with an ax (Ford neglected to measure the shed’s opening when building the machine). Art by David Hueso.
